Modern cinnabar is made through a labor-intensive series of over 30 separate lacquer dips. The word "cinnabar" comes from the Persian word "Dragon's Blood". Thee deep red pigment has been known in China for over 1300 years - and is held in high esteem for its beauty and for the protection if is thought to provide.
